the values of trees

when i was around 9 - 12 i used to sneak out late at night in the summer month’s, and bike to my grandmothers cemetery, sit by the little lake there and wonder about the big world, it was very sad, but so nice at the same time, i used to love it so much,

contemplating that i was adopted, and my croatian / serbian background (i was a foster child at the time), there were five big trees surrounding the little lake, i dedicated one to each of my biological parents (that were still alive than), and one to each of my three much older siblings

one of the trees got sick and died, i found out not long after that my biological dad had died in cancer, by smoking too much, a couple of years later the church maintenance staff had cut down one of the other smaller trees, and i found out my biological oldest sister had killed herself (it was very tragic, but i didnt know them very well, i only visited them ones every three years, together with my loving and caring foster (later adoptive) mother

many years later, when i no longer lived in the small town in north of sweden, i biked past the old cemetery, and looked at the remaining trees, one more had been taken down, and in my mind it was cause my biological mother had also passed away, there were now only three trees remaining, me, my older sister and my older brother, one of them were looking a bit windswept, i presumed it was my older brother’s as he was in a care home at the time

i went to hug them trees, sat by the little lake and watch a swan with her little baby swans, than biked back to my mum and gave her a big hug and said i loved her
